The BFD typically conducts a recruit testing process every two years. All candidates who succesfully complete each step are placed on the eligibility list from which all new employees are drawn.
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be at least 18 years of age to apply. Must be certified as Vermont Firefighter within the Probationary period. Ability to meet the qualifications as set forth in NFPA 1001 for Structural Firefighters. Corrected vision of at least 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other. Valid Vermont drivers license required by date of hire. Ability to obtain and maintain the minimum certification of EMT-Basic with in the Probationary period.
