On June 6, 2009 a six member team consisting of firefighters from the Williston Fire Department and the Burlington Fire Department raced up the Bennington Monument to raise money for the American Lung Association. Firefighters wearing full PPE including SCBA raced up the 34 flights of stairs (438 steps) to reach the top of the monument 306 feet high.
The team of David Auriemma, Tyler Hulbert, and Jon Rock of Williston and Nathan Perkins, Christopher Franzen, and Stephen Petit of Burlington won the fastest firefighting team division. Nate Perkins received a third place medal for an individual time of 2 minutes and 58 seconds.
The American Lung Association has raised more than $18,000 with this event. This team of firefighters was the third highest fundraising team bringing in $997.
A great time was had by all. We met some great firefighters and people from all around. We are definitely looking forward to next year.
